Mall crawler, grocery getter, etc. I don’t get it.
Why is a vehicle’s ability to acquire consumer goods and produce and whatnot a negative?

Groceries are bad, that’s why.

Because such insults are usually applied to cars whose capabilities go beyond consumer conveyance, yet are never used to such an extent.

Because why waste money on food when you can take that and upgrade your car?

It’s not.
They’re just trying to make you look like you’re not an enthusiast because you don’t have an impractical car.
I love my Excursion; I think it’s awesome that a vehicle can comfortably carry a ton of people and stuff and then tow even more.

Pizza is grocery

It’s supposed to imply that a car is not used to its full capabilities, and is instead used for mundane errands.

I never thought “grocery getter” was an insult. I always thought it was along the same lines as “daily driver”, and that’s never been an insult. Mall crawler though, yeah that’s an insult. All the cool kids wouldn’t ever be seen at the mall.

Grocery-getter isn’t necessarily an insult. If you have a cheap beater that gets good gas mileage like a Mirage that you use to putt around town in, that can be a noble grocery getter. It’s when you’re referring to an enormously capable car that’s obviously not used for what it was designed for (hauling loads, overlanding, track days) that it becomes an insult, and even then I think that it’s mostly directed towards the driver of the vehicle than the vehicle itself.

Calzone is better grocery.

Not if it’s delivery.

I always viewed it as synonymous with daily driver.

Yeah, same. I can see how it could be used as an insult, but I don’t think that it usually is.

You still don’t get it, do you? That Wrangler will find parking! That’s what it does! Thats *all* it does! You can’t stop it. It’ll wade through traffic, reach for a spot, and pull a fuckin’ cart out!

“Grocery Getter” is just another term for “daily driver” or “practical.” I don’t see it as an insult.
“Mall Crawler” is a big truck or SUV that never goes off road. I can see that as a bit of an insult.

I lovingly call my Dodge The Grocery Getter. It doesn’t bother me.

Personally, it’s laughable to see a lifted SUV with big tires at the mall, which has clearly never seen so much as a dirt road. Sort of a “look at me, I’m so offroad!” when....no.
